On April 1, 2011 Dwight Schilling will celebrate 40 years of ownership in this John Deere franchise. In 1971 Dwight heard that the Vermeulen & Sloan dealership in Mattoon, IL was selling part of their business. Dwight and his brother Dave purchased the shares belonging to Mr. Vermeulen on April 1, 1971.  At this time, the name of the dealership changed to Schilling and Sloan, owned by Dwight Schilling, Dave Schilling and Sloans .  In 1985, the Schilling’s, Dwight’s wife Mary, and a co-op of farmers bought out the Sloans to form Schilling Brothers, Inc. In 1993, Dwight’s 2 sons, Doug and Mike, began buying out the co-op and Dave to become the current owners with their parents Dwight and Mary. Today, Dwight is still very active in the company and plays a very important part in the daily operations . With Mary and their sons, they have acquired 2 more stores: Newton, IL purchased in 2003 and Casey, IL purchased in 2007. Please extend him a congratulations on his 40th anniversary by stopping by the Mattoon location or giving him a call at 217-234-6478.
