Mud Hog was founded in 1976 with a revolutionary idea to power the rear wheels of harvesting equipment with hydraulic power and thus allow crops to be harvested in muddy fields. Initially a need was found for Mud Hog axles while harvesting rice in southern U.S. states where a little rain during harvest made field conditions nearly impossible for standard 2 wheel drive machines to operate. Mud Hog drive axles quickly proved to be invaluable in tough field conditions proving the value of rear wheel drive. By 1978 Mud Hog was available as a factory installed option on International 1400 series combines. Through the years, the Mud Hog drive system design has evolved by introducing new systems. In 1980 the New Breed design was released followed by the V-Series in 1985. In 1988 the System II, and III design was introduced using our patented Equa-Trac II flow control valve. Through the '90's Mud Hog was first to market new design features such as 2-speed in 1995 and higher displacement wheel motors in our system IV design. Mud Hog has continued to refine the rear wheel drive system we invented have introduced new flow control valves, Flow regulators, and new design motors that include hydraulic oil flow through a single swivel joint.

Today, thousands of farm equipment dealers in North America and around the world sell and install reliable Mud Hog rear-wheel drive systems on their machines. Mud Hog is also available as a factory installed option on many brands of agricultural equipment such as Case IH, New Holland, Claas, John Deere, Gleaner, Massey-Ferguson, Caterpillar, and Challenger. With over 100 models, the Mud Hog product line provides custom solutions for nearly every make and model of harvesting equipment.
